China PE import prices stable to firm; domestic futures volatile

SE Asia prices mostly stable to firm, taking cues from China

Some Mideast offers announced; more expected next week

China’s polyethylene (PE) import price discussions were stable to firm as buying interest improved amid better domestic market conditions.

Reported delays in import arrivals and temporary shutdowns in China also supported higher discussion levels this week.

Southeast Asia’s PE import discussions were largely stable to firm, with high-density PE (HDPE) prices showing clear gains over recent weeks amid perceived shortages of some grades.

Linear low-density PE (LLDPE) price gains were less pronounced because of competitively priced LDPE.

Some suppliers in the Middle East announced firmer offers for August shipments this week and some buying interest emerged, amid signs that restocking in China also appeared to be picking up.

Buyers, however, continued to hold a cautious stance, buying only to meet immediate needs, while waiting for more offers expected to be announced over the next few weeks.
